About novel:-

The Scarlet Letter:

A Romance is a work of historical fiction by American author Nathaniel Hawthorne, published in 1850. Set in Puritan Massachusetts Bay Colony during the years 1642 to 1649, the novel tells the story of Hester Prynne who conceives a daughter through an affair and then struggles to create a new life of repentance and dignity. The book explores themes of legalism, sin, and guilt.

The Scarlet Letter was one of the first mass-produced books in America. It was popular when first published and is considered a classic work today. It inspired numerous film, television, and stage adaptations. Critics have described it as a masterwork and novelist D. H. Lawrence called it a "perfect work of the American
imagination".

In giving her existence a great law had been broken; and the result was a being whose elements were perhaps beautiful and brilliant, but all in disorder, or with an order peculiar to themselves, admidst which the point of variety and arrangement was difficult or impossible to be discovered.

Gazing at Pearl, Hester prynne often dropped herwork upon her knees, and cried out with an agony which she Would fain have hidden, but which made utterance for itself betwixt speech and a groan - "o father in heaven - if thou art still my father - what is this being which i have brought into the world? " and pearl, overcoming the ejaculation, or aware through some more subtitle channel, of those throbs of anguish, would turn her vivid and beautiful tittle face upon her mother, smile with spirite - like intelligence, and resume her play.

In the end, Hester and pearl leave Boston, pearl inherits chillingworth's wealth, and Hester returns to live the remaining days of life in her old cabin.

Slowly as the minister walked, he had almost gone by before Hester prynne could gather voice enough to attract his observation. Gathering himself quickly up, he stood more erect, like a man taken by surprise in a mood to which he was reluctant to have witnesses.

Throwing his eyes anxiously in the direction of the voice, he garments so sombre, and so little relieved from the gray twilight into which the cloued sky and the heavy foliage had darkened the noontide, that he knew not whether it were a woman or a shadow
It may be that his pathway through life was haunted thus by a spectre that had stolen out from among his thoughts.

He made a step nigher, and discovered the scarlet letter.
It was no wonder that they thus questioned one anothers actual and bodily existence, and even doubted of their own.
